When Morocco recognize America's sovereignty and independence

◙ Morocco has recognized the independence of the United States of America since 1777. The Sultan Mohamed III issued a publication from Meknes concerning allowing several countries to do business with Morocco. Among them were the United States of America.

◙ The Moroccan initiative was considered the first ever recognition of America's sovereignty and independence.

◙ And because of the slowness of the American Diplomacy due to the internal conflicts, Morocco has taken strong measures against Us ships, that practice maritime navigation without fulfilling the duties and taxes imposed by countries to each other.

◙ On the Moroccan side in 1784, a large American ship was seized while waiting for the United States to sign their agreement with Morocco.

◙ The Moroccan-American relations were officially strengthened in 1787 when the Us Congress ratified the Treaty on Peace and Friendship between the two countries. Morocco then officially acknowledged the American colonies as a unified sovereign state.

◙ The treaty renegotiated in 1836, which is still valid to this day, is the longest treaty in U.S. history without interruption.

◙ Tangier also hosted the world's oldest U.S. diplomatic headquarters, which today has been transformed into a museum.
